Over the past three months, our MWA team has been exceptionally active and dedicated to serving our community. During this period, we have focused on organizing and executing our major fundraiser, Designer Bag Bingo. The profit from this event goes to our beneficiaries. In addition to our fundraiser, we maintained our commitment to making a positive impact by continuing our monthly donations and service projects.
Within this three-month timeframe, we completed sixteen Acts of Service. Each project reflects our dedication to service and our goal of making a meaningful difference in others’ lives.
Major Fundraiser: Designer Bag Bingo
A significant highlight was the preparation and successful execution of our major fundraiser, Designer Bag Bingo. This event includes bingo games, raffle baskets, and a 50/50, creating an enjoyable experience for 300 guests. Designer Bag Bingo’s success relies on extensive planning and teamwork. Our members dedicated several months to organizing and executing the event.
We are proud to include four key efforts as part of our 45 Acts of Service:
• Soliciting Raffle Basket Donations from Local Businesses
A team of members “knocks on doors” to request donations of gift cards or products from local businesses for our 36 regular raffles and three luxury baskets. This year, we received donations from over 180 companies.
• Member Donations for Raffle Baskets
Members also contribute items or donate them for raffle baskets. This year’s “Bookworm” basket was created through donations from our book club members. Members created many of the handbag baskets, the gluten-free, perfect pour, and yoga baskets. This year’s #1 performing basket was The Wine Wagon, which members donated together.
• Building the Raffle Baskets
The building process begins with determining which basket a donation goes in. Bingo attendees particularly love our luxury, town, and designer bag baskets. We try to create baskets that attendees want to put tickets against. Creating baskets requires baskets, stuffing, gift card signage, cellophane, ribbons, and more. Our members come to basket-building parties to put it all together.
• Running the Event
Central to the evening’s success is our bingo caller, Tiff, who hosts and manages the games, setting the pace and energy of the event. Behind the scenes, a very hardworking crew manages event ticket purchases, seating areas, venue set-up, selling additional bingo cards, raffle and 50/50 tickets, and clean-up. It takes collaboration to make a well-organized bingo event, and everyone participates to create success.
Yardley Harvest Day
Makefield Woman’s Association participates in Yardley Harvest Day to raise awareness about our organization’s work and expand our membership. Many members shared our organizational goals and recent Acts of Service. Plus, we promoted our annual Designer Bag Bingo event. It was a beautiful day, and everyone had a good time.
Ongoing Donations and Service Projects
Alongside our major fundraiser and Harvest Day, our team remained committed to regular monthly donations and service projects with various charity organizations. These ongoing efforts ensure that our support for the community is consistent and impactful throughout the year.
We completed six service and five donation projects in August through October.
