MWA Member Jennifer Ketler

Jennifer Ketler

Looking at my life, you might say that I am a person who values long-term commitment. My husband and I have lived in Yardley, PA, for almost 30 years, and I’ve been a middle school math teacher for almost 35 years. It’s that same belief in commitment that accounts for my memorable and rewarding association with Makefield Women’s Association.

I first joined in 1999, which qualifies me as a long-standing member.  I’ve seen the association grow, not only in membership, but in our continued pledge to directly help our neighbors.  Throughout those years, I held many positions, including president, secretary, and treasurer.  I’ve also been on the Budget and Constitution committees and helped orchestrate Yardley Harvest Day at its inception. I enjoy our adjunct activities, too. Since I spend lots of time outdoors, walking the towpath or visiting various local parks, the Adopt-A-Highway program appeals to me; it’s a chance to help maintain my town and, similar to my time assembling meals at Caring For Friends, it’s a prime opportunity to get to know other members.

I particularly enjoy maintaining relationships with our beneficiaries. During the beneficiaries’ night, I am always delighted to hear from our high school scholarship students about their community service and career plans. I was especially touched when one of our recipients visited us after college to express her thanks and to return our award as a way of paying it forward.  It’s exactly that attitude that has helped MWA grow into one of the most charitable and active community service associations in the area.

Not only have I witnessed our group grow, but I have experienced its evolution firsthand. Members are strongly encouraged to use their strengths and talents to fulfill our many projects and also to create new initiatives. It’s safe to say that being a member of MWA has been a commitment of which I have felt most fulfilled.
