Through my job in Workforce Development, I’ve come to realize that giving back to the community is equally as important as any other dimension of daily life. That is just part of the reason why I was drawn to MWA, not only for its fundraising initiatives but also for the enrichment I experience being part of such a diverse and welcoming group of women.
Since moving from Hamilton, NJ, to Yardley twenty-two years ago, I have thoroughly enjoyed what the area has to offer. I particularly like exploring hiking trails and nature parks, which is why I love being a part of MWA’s Walking Club. Reading is also a valued hobby; I appreciate joining an enlightened group of readers in a book club where, once a month, we discuss works that I probably would have never considered. Mostly, though, I am taken by our initiatives to better the community and to raise money for local non-profits. I love working alongside like-minded women during Caring for Friends, assembling meals for those in need, and am moved when I hear from our beneficiaries on the special night when we award funds to worthy causes and learn about the impact those funds have had on their organizations. I also enjoy participating in the Sunshine Committee, where we acknowledge the joys and struggles of our members.
It always surprises me that, although we meet monthly for only an hour, we achieve a remarkable amount in that time. I can largely attribute that to the single-minded focus of our members who are devoted to the MWA goals. For us, age is not a factor, nor is anything else-just an abiding commitment to the community.
