LYNN SPELLMAN
What initially piqued my interest in Makefield Women’s Association was attending my first Designer Bag Bingo in Newtown, PA, a few years ago. When I witnessed the energy in the room, the teamwork, and the members’ dedication to raising money for local beneficiaries, I was hooked—I wanted to be part of it. That was 8 years ago, and I haven’t been disappointed.
Before joining MWA, I was involved in the telecommunications industry and was a first-time mom. Since my time was limited, I was looking for ways to meet like-minded people and contribute meaningfully to the community. That devotion to purpose is one of the many things I appreciate about our organization. During our meetings, we make the most of our time, staying on the agenda while exploring fresh ways to enhance our programs. I also enjoy hearing from speakers after our meetings. This year alone, we have learned from health representatives, real estate experts, fire department officials, and even a pickleball organizer! Outside of the meetings, I have participated in the Social, Hospitality, Nominating, Sunshine, and Service Outreach committees and am happy to contribute to Adopt-A-Highway, which has consistently kept Edgewood Road clean for over 30 years. During my time on these committees, I have appreciated working with a mix of women of different ages, backgrounds, and experiences — it’s clear that all are welcome.
We are a dynamic mix, always willing to pilot new initiatives, whether it involves a charitable cause, a walking club, a book club, or a pickleball team. Not only are these ways to bond with other members, but we also get to enjoy ourselves. I can truly say that the same spirit of generosity and care that I saw during my first Bingo event has only grown over the years.
