Although I’ve recently retired from a long career as a pharmaceutical representative, I’ve no plans to retire from my interest in volunteering. Whether I’m in Florida during the winter or Yardley for the rest of the year, I make it a point to contribute wherever I am. For as long as I can remember, I’ve felt the importance of giving back to the community.
Since joining MWA in 2017, I’ve participated in the Sunshine, Social, and Bingo committees and have had fun manning a booth during Yardley Harvest Day and Lower Makefield Township Community Day. During those events, we have the opportunity to introduce the public to our association; in turn, we meet the individuals we help throughout the year. A few years ago, I joined the board as external vice president, where we align with organizations such as A Women’s Place and Family Service Association with the goal of becoming a more intrinsic part of Bucks County. I’ve especially liked helping to keep Edgewood Road clean through Adopt-A-Highway and assembling meals with Caring For Friends. I even elicited the help of my son during these activities to introduce him to the benefits of helping others. A particularly special time for me is when we see the fruits of our labor during Beneficiaries’ Night, where we award funds to local organizations. It’s enjoyable to hear specifically how our contributions have supported organizations like the Yardley-Makefield Fire Company.
Spending time with other members during Trivia Night and the book club is also rewarding. It’s then that I’ve forged relationships with generous-hearted women who share my goal to make a positive impact on the community. I know that wherever I am—Yardley, Florida, or traveling to parts unknown—those bonds will always remain in the forefront.
