It’s 2020, Covid is just breaking out, and I’m moving to Lower Makefield.  We were all using apps and zoom to connect.  I learned about MWA through the Nextdoor App.  I thought it could be a way to meet people and connect with the community. Even though they were conducting their meetings through zoom, members were welcoming and took that extra step to help me integrate into the group even though we weren’t meeting in person.

As the world returned to normal, we returned to hosting various holiday parties for the children at the Bucks County Homeless Shelter in Levittown.   The shelter provides homeless families with a safe, temporary home.  At any given time at least 50% of the 85-person residents are children.  I’ve organized the Halloween and Easter parties for these children ever since.  These parties are my favorite service events. After a Halloween party one of the children told me that he would keep the pumpkin we decorated so he could put it on his front porch when he lives in a house.

Another service project I always participate in is Caring for Friends.  Several times a year our members individually prepare food and come together to build about 150 meals that are delivered to homebound persons in the greater Philadelphia area. It feels good to help people. A new beneficiary that is close to my heart is Pennsbury Kids.  I look forward to making Pennsbury kids in need happier.

We do many service projects through MWA. Sometimes work gets crazy and you can’t participate in as much as you thought, but you can always get someone to fill in for you. We work together and have each other’s backs.
