Makefield Women’s Association Awards $24,000 to Local Non-Profits

The Makefield Women’s Association (MWA) dedicates itself to making a difference in our community each year. Through fundraising, volunteer work, and advocacy, MWA supports local organizations that provide crucial services to those in need. This past year was no exception, and at our recent annual beneficiary meeting, we had the immense honor of awarding $24,000 to local non-profits. This meeting is always a highlight of our year, where we get to see the direct impact of our efforts and hear inspiring stories from the beneficiaries themselves.

A Year of Hard Work and Generosity

MWA operates year-round, hosting events and initiatives to raise funds that will be distributed each April. Through a thoughtful nominating and voting process, our members select a group of Annual Beneficiaries—local non-profits that align with our mission of community support. The funds raised yearly come from various MWA events, including Designer Bag Bingo, holiday raffles, and other community-driven initiatives.

This year, thanks to the incredible support from our members and the local community, we successfully raised $24,000. These funds were awarded to organizations that work tirelessly to support individuals and families across Bucks County.

2025 Beneficiary Recipients

The organizations selected as our 2025 beneficiaries are deeply rooted in service, helping some of our community’s most vulnerable members.

A Woman’s Place – Bucks County’s only domestic violence shelter, providing a haven and critical resources for individuals and families affected by domestic violence.
Bucks County Volunteers

Family Service Association, Bucks County Homeless Shelter – Based in Levittown, PA, this shelter provides essential services to homeless families, helping them transition to stability.
Bucks County Volunteers

Bucks County Housing Group: Penndel Community Food Pantry—This pantry is a lifeline for individuals and families experiencing food insecurity, ensuring that no one in our community goes hungry.

Yardley-Makefield Fire Company – The sole provider of fire protection for the businesses and residents of Lower Makefield and Yardley Borough, keeping our community safe.
Bucks County Volunteers

Pennsbury Scholarships – Two scholarships were awarded to graduating Pennsbury High School seniors to support their academic and career aspirations.
Bucks County Volunteers

Each of these organizations plays a vital role in our community, and it was genuinely moving to hear firsthand how our contributions will support their continued efforts.

A Night of Gratitude and Inspiration

Our annual beneficiary meeting reminds us why we do what we do. As we gathered to present the checks to these incredible organizations, we were filled with gratitude—not just for the impact we were making but also for the people who make it all possible. Our donors, volunteers, and community members are the heartbeat of MWA, and their generosity fuels everything we accomplish.

Gina Athas, MWA President, captured the sentiment perfectly:

“Our beneficiaries are doing such great work in our area, and it makes me feel hopeful and grateful that we can contribute to their efforts in some small way.”

We couldn’t agree more. Every dollar raised, every hour volunteered, and every event hosted is a testament to what can be achieved when a community comes together for a greater cause.

We also look ahead to the future as we celebrate another successful year of giving. The work continues, and we always look for new members who want to make a difference.
