Each year, through a thoughtful nominating and voting process, Makefield Women’s Association (MWA), based in Lower Makefield Township, selects a group of nonprofit organizations from Bucks County, Pennsylvania, and the surrounding areas to be our Annual Beneficiaries. With these deserving local organizations in mind, MWA hosts fundraising events and collects donations throughout the year. At year’s end, proceeds are distributed to the selected beneficiaries to help them continue their vital work in our community.
In addition to raising funds, MWA members actively support these organizations through hands-on service projects and community outreach across Bucks County. From donation drives to volunteer initiatives, there’s always meaningful work happening at MWA. Our mission is to serve the Bucks County community in every way we can. These are just a few of the many ways we support local nonprofits and give back to our community.

A Woman’s Place
As the only domestic violence organization in Bucks County, PA, A Woman’s Place (AWP) provides comprehensive free, private, and confidential service, support, education, outreach, and advocacy to victims of domestic violence and their children and the community. AWP is committed to the empowerment of women and to ending intimate and domestic violence for all.
FSA-Bucks County Emergency Homeless Shelter
This shelter, located in Levittown, provides homeless families with a safe, temporary home, along with food, medical care, clothing, social services and more importantly, hope.

Pennsbury Kids
Works with the Pennsbury School District staff to provide funds for our students from the 10 elementary schools, 3 middle schools, and high school to have experiences and enrichment that would otherwise be unmet.
Women’s Animal Center
Provide shelter, veterinary care, behavior training, rescue transfer and adoption services for over 3,000 animals in need each year and further assist our community through lost and found services, whereby we reunite hundreds of lost pets with their families annually. Women’s Animal Center also collaborates with other welfare organizations in our region as a member of the Philadelphia No-Kill Coalition.
Yardley-Makefield Fire Company
The Yardley-Makefield Fire Company is the sole provider of fire protection of the businesses and residents of Lower Makefield and Yardley Borough. YMFC operates two station houses and is 100% volunteer. They pay for all operating costs, equipment, clothing and training from funding and donations/fundraisers.
Members of MWA not only raise funds for local nonprofits but also support these organizations in various other ways. Monthly donation drives and volunteer work are essential components of our mission to serve the community. The following are organizations that we support through donations or volunteer work.
Our Impact
Beyond fundraising, MWA members take an active role in hands-on community service. Some of our ongoing initiatives include:
- Annual Beneficiary Support: Each year, we select and raise funds for local nonprofit organizations, helping them further their missions.
- Monthly Member Collections: Members bring donations for a designated local cause at each meeting, ensuring consistent support throughout the year.
- Caring for Friends: Preparing and delivering meals to individuals facing food insecurity.
- Family Service Association’s Homeless Shelter: Organizing events and activities to bring joy and normalcy to children and families in transitional housing.
- Adopt-a-Highway: Maintaining a three-mile stretch of Edgewood Road in Lower Makefield, keeping our community clean and beautiful.
- Acts of Service: we seek out area nonprofits for volunteer and donation opportunities.
These projects are just a glimpse of how MWA continues to make a tangible difference in Bucks County.
