To mark our 45th anniversary, MWA launched a bold initiative: 45 Acts of Service. Over the next year, we will complete 45 big and small projects to extend our reach, deepen our impact, and bring more people into the spirit of service. During May, we supported several organizations by completing service projects and donation projects. These activities help those in need and allow our members to build relationships and stay connected.
Caring for Friends provides food and friendship to homebound seniors, veterans, individuals experiencing homelessness, and families with children in need. Their “Carry Bag” program distributes snack bags daily to hungry children and adults between meals and at breakfast. On May 7th, MWA members donated juices, a variety of breakfast items, and a caring note. We assembled 64 breakfast bags for distribution.
MWA proudly partners with Adopt-a-Highway to help keep our community beautiful. On Saturday, May 10th, members volunteered their time to remove litter and other debris along our 2-mile stretch of roadway on Edgewood Road in Lower Makefield Township. This act of service contributes to a cleaner, safer, and more welcoming environment for everyone who travels through the area. It reflects our mission to serve the community not only through fundraising and advocacy but also through hands-on projects.
On Mother’s Day, MWA hosted a special Mother’s Day Dinner for their 20 incredible foster, adoptive, and kinship moms through Foster the Family Greater Philadelphia. These women provide compassionate care for children facing challenging circumstances, and we strive to ensure that these mothers are recognized, valued, and celebrated. At the dinner, each woman received a gift bag filled with a journal, pen, affirmation cards, a handwritten thank-you note, and a gift card. Donations from MWA members sponsored the gift bags.
Every Mother’s Day, MWA helps children living in A Woman’s Place shelter celebrate their mothers with the gift of a dinner out. This special time allows them to enjoy laughter and heartfelt conversations, creating a supportive and uplifting atmosphere. MWA members are honored to contribute to this celebration by providing gift cards to a local restaurant, enabling the shelter’s children to honor their mothers. This year, we provided $250 towards the event.
Bucks County Housing Group serves food-insecure families through the Penndel and Doylestown Food Pantries. These pantries serve as a food resource for families who are unable to meet the government’s standard for adequate nutrition. MWA continued its work with the Penndel Food Pantry on May 17th by checking and sorting donated food from the Postal Service’s May food collection.
As part of our ongoing commitment to community care, MWA organizes cooking drives to support Caring for Friends. On May 21st, MWA members gathered at a local church to prepare and package 128 nourishing meals. The food—either donated or purchased by our members—is assembled into dinner trays, providing a comforting and balanced meal for those who need it most. Once prepared, these trays are stored in the church’s freezer and later distributed by Caring for Friends to individuals across the region. Through teamwork and generosity, we aim to bring a little warmth and nourishment to neighbors facing isolation or hardship.
